Alter Genesis is a Japanese Pokémon TCG expansion from the Sun & Moon era. Released in Japan in 2019 with the set code SM12, the expansion has a strong connection to Legendary Pokémon from the Sinnoh region and prominently features Arceus, Dialga and Palkia. TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX form an important part of the set, combining powerful Pokémon on single cards during the final period of the Sun & Moon series.
The Alter Genesis card list features Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX as one of the defining cards of the expansion. The set also includes Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff-GX, Solgaleo & Lunala-GX, Flygon-GX and other Pokémon-GX alongside regular Pokémon and Trainer cards. This mixture brings together Pokémon from several generations while maintaining a strong focus on the Legendary Pokémon associated with Sinnoh.
TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX are an important characteristic of Alter Genesis. Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX combines three Legendary Pokémon on a single card, while other TAG TEAM combinations provide different partnerships and artwork styles. These cards represent one of the defining mechanics of the later Sun & Moon era and give the expansion a recognizable identity among Japanese Pokémon sets.
Collectors can find several rarity levels throughout the Japanese Alter Genesis card list. Alongside regular Pokémon and Pokémon-GX, the expansion includes Super Rare, Hyper Rare and additional Secret Rare cards. Selected TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX and individual Pokémon appear with alternative artwork, while Full Art Trainer cards provide additional character-focused designs beyond the regular numbered collection.
