Ancient Roar is a Japanese Pokémon TCG expansion from the Scarlet & Violet era. Released in Japan in 2023 with the set code SV4K, the set focuses strongly on Ancient Pokémon and the prehistoric side of the Paradox Pokémon introduced during the Scarlet & Violet era. This theme runs throughout the expansion and gives Ancient Roar a rugged identity within the Japanese Pokémon TCG.
The Ancient Roar card list features Pokémon such as Roaring Moon ex, Sandy Shocks ex and other Pokémon associated with the Ancient mechanic. These cards appear alongside regular Pokémon, Pokémon ex and Trainer cards from different generations. Ancient Pokémon are an important part of the set’s gameplay and visual direction, connecting the expansion closely with the mysterious creatures associated with the distant past.
Ancient Roar also includes a varied selection of Art Rare cards. These illustration-focused cards show Pokémon in detailed environments and scenes, creating a different visual experience from the standard versions found in the main set. Selected Pokémon and Trainers also appear as higher-rarity cards with alternative artwork and more elaborate treatments, adding further variety to the collection.
Collectors can find several rarity levels throughout the Japanese Ancient Roar set. Alongside regular numbered cards and Pokémon ex, the expansion includes Art Rare, Super Rare and Special Art Rare cards, as well as additional higher-rarity versions. These different categories provide multiple ways to approach the set, whether focusing on specific Pokémon, artwork cards or a complete Ancient Roar collection.
All Ancient Roar cards on this collection page belong to the Japanese SV4K expansion and feature Japanese-language card text. Ancient Roar was released alongside Future Flash, with the two sets exploring opposite sides of the Paradox Pokémon theme. Ancient Roar represents the prehistoric side through its Ancient Pokémon, while Future Flash focuses on their futuristic counterparts.
