Graded Pokémon cards are professionally authenticated and evaluated cards that are permanently protected inside a sealed grading holder. Each card is individually examined by a grading company and receives a grade based on its condition and the standards used by that company. This creates a clear distinction between graded Pokémon cards and raw, ungraded cards while providing additional information about the individual card.
The graded Pokémon cards available in this collection can include cards from different Pokémon TCG eras, sets and languages. Modern cards can appear alongside vintage Pokémon cards, while the selection may include English, Japanese and other releases. From classic Pokémon and early holographic cards to modern illustration cards, Pokémon ex and other special rarities, graded cards can cover virtually every period of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Professional grading evaluates different aspects of a Pokémon card before assigning its final grade. Factors such as centering, corners, edges and surface condition can influence the result. Depending on the grading company and service used, additional information or individual subgrades may also be provided. The finished card is encapsulated inside a protective holder together with a label displaying information about the card and its assigned grade.
Different professional grading companies can be found within the Pokémon card market, including PSA, Beckett, CGC and TAG. Each company uses its own grading system, holder design and evaluation standards. Because of these differences, two copies of the same Pokémon card can have different grades, labels and presentations depending on their condition and the company responsible for grading them.
Graded Pokémon cards can be collected in many different ways. Some collectors focus on a specific Pokémon such as Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee or Mew, while others collect particular sets, rarities, languages, grading companies or grades. A graded collection can therefore range from individual modern cards to complete selections of vintage and contemporary Pokémon cards from different eras.
