Ruler of the Black Flame is a Japanese Pokémon TCG expansion from the Scarlet & Violet era. Released in Japan in 2023 with the set code SV3, the expansion introduced additional Tera Pokémon ex and has a particularly strong connection with Charizard. Its combination of Pokémon ex, Tera Pokémon and illustration-focused cards gives Ruler of the Black Flame a recognizable identity among Japanese Scarlet & Violet sets.
The Ruler of the Black Flame card list features Pokémon such as Charizard ex, Tyranitar ex, Eiscue ex, Revavroom ex and Pidgeot ex alongside regular Pokémon and Trainer cards. Charizard ex is one of the defining cards of the expansion and appears as a Darkness-type Tera Pokémon ex, providing a different interpretation of a Pokémon traditionally associated with Fire.
Artwork is an important part of Ruler of the Black Flame, with Art Rare cards presenting Pokémon in detailed scenes and environments. Several Evolution lines receive connected or complementary illustrations, while selected Pokémon ex and Trainers appear as Special Art Rare cards with more elaborate full-card artwork. These cards provide additional visual variety beyond the regular versions found in the main numbered set.
The Japanese Ruler of the Black Flame set contains several different rarity levels. Alongside regular cards and Pokémon ex, collectors can find Art Rare, Super Rare, Special Art Rare and additional higher-rarity cards. Charizard ex appears in multiple versions within the expansion, making the Pokémon an especially prominent part of the complete Ruler of the Black Flame card list.
All Ruler of the Black Flame cards on this collection page belong to the original Japanese SV3 expansion and feature Japanese-language card text. The set forms part of the wider Scarlet & Violet series and represents an important stage in the development of Tera Pokémon ex, where familiar Pokémon could appear with types different from those normally associated with them.
