Star Birth is a Japanese Pokémon TCG expansion from the Sword & Shield era. Released in Japan in 2022 with the set code S9, the expansion introduced the Pokémon VSTAR mechanic to the Japanese Pokémon TCG. Arceus plays a central role within the set, giving Star Birth a strong connection to one of the most recognizable Mythical Pokémon associated with the Sinnoh region.
The Star Birth card list features Pokémon such as Arceus V, Arceus VSTAR, Charizard V, Charizard VSTAR, Lumineon V and Shaymin VSTAR. These cards appear alongside regular Pokémon, Evolution lines and Trainer cards from several generations. The combination of established Pokémon and the newly introduced VSTAR mechanic gives the expansion an important position within the later Sword & Shield era.
Pokémon VSTAR are one of the defining characteristics of Star Birth. These powerful Evolutions of Pokémon V introduced VSTAR Powers, special abilities or attacks that can normally be used only once during a game. Arceus VSTAR and Charizard VSTAR are among the prominent examples in the expansion, combining the new mechanic with Pokémon that already have a strong presence within the Pokémon TCG.
Collectors can find several rarity levels throughout the Japanese Star Birth card list. Alongside regular cards, Pokémon V and Pokémon VSTAR, the expansion contains Super Rare, Hyper Rare and additional Secret Rare cards. Alternative artwork versions of selected Pokémon provide more detailed illustrations, while higher-rarity Trainer and Pokémon cards extend the collection beyond the regular numbered set.
All Star Birth cards on this collection page belong to the original Japanese S9 expansion and feature Japanese-language card text. As the first Japanese expansion built around Pokémon VSTAR, Star Birth represents an important transition within the Sword & Shield series and established a mechanic that would continue across many of the Japanese sets released afterward.
